A little about me...
Nice to meet you! I'm Brandon Ho and currently a MS in Technology Management student at Nanyang Technological University as part of the Renaissance Engineering Programme. I was involved in 3 startup projects and 1 UI / UX Design internship over the past 4 years. Other notable experiences include working in the publicity team of the university's Runners' Club, Welfare Services Club and the social welfare team of the Renaissance Engineering Club.
I have also participated in competitions like the Shopee Product & Design Challenge 2021.
The driving force behind pursuing a career in product design has always been an interest in creating meaningful products. This lends itself towards my bias of working on startup projects rather than chasing high profile internships with big-tech. It also pushes me to build my repertoire. On top of the school's official design curriculum, I started picking up interface design tools such as Adobe XD and Figma in 2018, graphic editors like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator in 2019 and 3D graphic editors like Blender in 2020 and beyond. To create products, I have also picked up programming languages such as Python but mostly JavaScript, expanding my toolset to include libraries like React, React Native and Electron (more on that in my resume).
TL;DR I'm passionate about product design and have been continuously learning relevant tools and skills
When I'm not at my desk
I enjoy going for jogs in the evening to unwind, often listening to podcasts while doing so. I'm currently listening to Y Combinator's series "How to Start a Startup".
When I have longer blocks of free time, I usually indulge myself in working on a startup idea, You can find me jotting down ideas, writing down a business plan in Notion, working in Figma, coding in VSC or talking to people.
I also got involved in cryptocurrency and blockchain when my friend shilled me into investing in it. Nowadays, I'm more interested in the technology's real-world applications and Web3 Development itself.
I love reading books too. I used to enjoy Lovecraftian horrors. Nowadays I mostly read non-fiction; I'm currently reading "Articulating Design Decisions: Communicate with Stakeholders, Keep Your Sanity, and Deliver the Best User Experience" by Tom Greever.
I sometimes fall into the trap of binge-watching Netflix shows, but I still try my best to live life to the fullest and be more conscious of how I spend my time. I prioritize spending quality time with my loved ones and improving myself, just creating good memories in general.
